Since 2005 I have been working as an artist under the name Primitive. I took this name after becoming obsessed with the paradox that in some ways “primitive” cultures were in fact far more advanced than modern ones. I started trying to understand what this word really meant and discovered it led down many paths- to architecture and building practices, mathematics and patterning, native art, culture and spirituality. These dualities between the simple and the complex, the past and the present have become an ever-present theme in my work and in my life. I try to stay as I call it -Primitive- using my artistic practice as a platform to understand objects, society, and my place socially and historically on this planet.
